Yep, our first official event of 2018 is I Made It! Sweet at the Block Northway on the 10th. Below the flyer for it (and yes, you could win a gift card) and here’s the Facebook Event Page.
We’ll have restocks of your old favorites, along with some new pieces on offer. This includes some hand-engraved goodies, now that I’ve got my gravers ready to go again. If you want first dibs on items going up in the event (you can even pick them up there) you can always head on over to Patreon and become our Patron for as little as a dollar!
Okay, we’ve got some events coming up, and I’m going to tell you about them!
First off, this coming Saturday is Fright Night in Market Square. We’re going to be there, dressed up in our jewelry booth and with a big bowl of candy. No idea how long that’ll last, but we’ll have some. There’s lots going on besides the Night Market for Fright Night, so click here for details!
Next up is the I Made It! Holiday Market! It’s a two day event starting on Black Friday and going through Small Business Saturday. It’s indoors, so you won’t have to worry about being cold while you shop, and there willl be literally dozens of local artists there for you to pick from, including us! Click here to learn more about what’s going on.
But Brandy, you say, I don’t live in Pittsburgh. Why should I care?
Since you’re reading this, I’m assuming you’re a fan of our work, so this is still relevant. You see, these are big shows and big shows tend to mean that lots of our jewelry gets purchased, which is awesome for us, but bad for you if you can’t get to the shows. You’ll miss out on that one-of-a-kind piece you’ve been eyeing for a while, because our one-offs tend to go fast at big shows. If I may, I suggest marking the show on your calendar and either snagging what you want before they hit, or dropping some hints to potential holiday gifters.
So, even if you can’t get out to the show this weekend, I hope you have a safe and fun Halloween!
First off, if you met me at the Ren Fest, thank you for visiting my page! I know that it’s kind of in shambles right now, but I’m working on it as we clean up from the event and get ready for the next ones on the list.
As for the festival itself, it was an amazing time for all of us with surprisingly good weather, first weekend aside. What happened? Well, we had a brief but exciting onslaught of near-hurricane force winds and pelting rain! When we saw the jewelry boards covered in metal start to rattle and peel off the cart, we abandoned ship and hightailed it down to the main shop, Versailles Jewelers. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long until the weather calmed enough for us to go back up top and reset the chainmaille cart. That seemed to be the worst of it, as for the rest of the festival the weather was all right, if a bit hot some days. It felt like Mother Nature got it all out of her system in one afternoon!
Not much else exciting happened, but i did make good progress on my scalemaille armor. I’ll keep the blog (and my instagram) updated on its progress!
Although there was a funny moment on a chilly day. I let my hair down, which I usually have up, and a lady started petting it because she thought I was wearing a Jon Snow cloak! Admittedly, my hair is dark, wavy and there’s, like, three feet of it, so I don’t blame her, especially when I had my friend take a picture and I saw what I looked like from the back. Easy closet cosplay? I think so!
I don’t usually get the chance to take many pictures, but here’s a few:
If you haven’t been to the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, you should come! The food is good, the people are friendly, and you can always stop by the “Spoils of War” cart for a quick chainmaille lesson or to just geek out about things in general.
So, until next time, I leave you with the traditional Rennie goodbye. Sing along!
We have some local Pittsburgh Events we’re going to this week!
First off is Thursday’s event, the Wyland PTO’s 3rd Annual Mom’s Night Out held at the Narcisi winery in Gibsonia. It’s a gorgeous location, and tickets are only $40! That’s pretty dang good for a night out drinking wine.
In case you didn’t know, Brian is a published author. He’s always made his short stories available at conventions as little mini books, but due to popular demand he’s making them available as 99¢ Kindle books. To celebrate, he’s offering his most popular short, “Insomnia” for free starting today and going through until the end of the holiday weekend. It’s a horror/suspense story about a man’s struggle with severe insomnia, and partially based on Brian’s own personal experience with sleep paralysis. Very creepy!
As for Steel City Con – We had a great time and will be back with his book (potentially more books!) in July. Brian will have two books done by then, and hopefully the second Windsmith City book available for purchase.
And speaking of books – I got the FIRST BOX of my “Celtic Spirals to Color” book in! That means it’ll be up in the shop as soon as I get enough light for a clean photo. Probably later today. Aren’t they pretty?
Whether you’re into Valentine’s Day or not, it’s coming, and there’s more to look forward to than day-after discount chocolate.
On February 4th, 10 days before, you can join us and a bunch of other local artists and makers to shop!
So, if you’re looking for something for your sweetheart or you’re single and want to show yourself some love, you should come to SouthSide Works and see what’s in store. Carrie and the I Made It! crew always put on a great show!
So, back in December I participated in The Procrastinator’s Ball, where I met the awesome and geeky Kahmeela Adams. She’s a podcaster who does a host of shows, among them her Rugged Angel podcast, an interview series which features Pittsburgh people (mostly ladies) who are getting things done. She did a series of inteviews with the people there, including yours truly! If you’re interested in learning more about some ineteresting locals, you can check it out here.
Which Pittsburgh ladies would you like to see Kahmeela interview? Leave a comment, and I’ll pass it on!
As you can see, the 12th Night Sale is going strong! I just want to remind you that it ends soon and most of the items are One of a Kind. When they’re gone, they’re gone. We have a few days left, so you can still share them with your friends and family as a “subtle” hint.
I’d also like to remind you that the Procrastinator’s Ball is in two days, and the 12th Night Sale prices will apply. We’re going to be in the Ballroom at Spirit, in Lawrenceville, and there’s some amazing music lined up, along with a host of wonderful local artists. Just look for our “castle walls” – We shouldn’t be hard to spot!
