Penannular brooches were worn throughout ancient Europe by everyone from the Romans to the Vikings, but most famously by the Celts. They could be large, wrought iron pieces meant to hold together heavy wool kilts and cloaks, or highly ornate works of art like the fabulous Tara Brooch. My asymmetrical, beaded version is made from copper, and meant for light to medium use. This one features a green quartz drop and is ideal for scarves or keeping your kilt from flying open.
