Religious jewelry as well as everyday pieces incorporated the quatrefoil, and it remains a popular decorating motif today. The shape of the carnelian in the center resembles a pyramid, with a high, pointed top and slightly curved edges. It’s called a sugarloaf, and was widely used in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance but is hard to find today. Lucky for me, I have Brian to cut them!
